Where to walk this October

Whilst the majority of visitors flock to Suffolk during the summer, autumn is also a great time to explore our county. Here are some of our favourite footpaths that should definitely be on your radar.

The Stour Valley Path:
This 60-mile trail is perhaps one of the best ways to soak up Suffolk's impressive countryside (though you needn't walk all 60 miles of it). Rest your weary feet afterwards at the Long Melford Swan for a bit of well deserved luxury.

Orford Quay:
A blustery walk in Orford is a great way to blow away the cobwebs come rain or shine (though naturally we prefer shine). Wander alongside the water and back, or try out an adventurous loop-the-loop to see where you end up. After you've worked up an appetite, be sure to stop by the Pump Street Bakery to top up any calories you might have lost.

The Sailors' Path:
Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh are two of Suffolk's pride and joys, so the Sailors' Path (which links the two) was always going to be high on our list. You'll begin at the impressive Maltings (try and avoid picking up too much shopping beforehand if you can...) before heading out along the River Alde, through the Snape Warren Nature Reserve, and ending up on at the famous beachside town – where we highly recommend grabbing a coveted fish and chips. Stay at Toll House which is within walking distance of the beach and town centre.

Southwold Harbour:
A great way to see everything in Southwold. Start in the town, head to the seafront and pier, then mosey along the beach itself to the Harbour. You'll also briefly come across the marshes before you turn back to town for an ice cream. Here's where you should be staying afterwards...
